Simply a Moment - November 2013

I step outside the conservatory door, torch in hand, and shiver as the cold air seeps through my cotton sweater. I turn on the torch and walk briskly down the garden. The torch shines on the garden clock, 8.30pm, and I see the rain drizzling in the beam of light. The end of the garden looks dark and forbidding - Penny calls it the serial killer area! In truth it is just imagination that marks it feel so scary. I reach the chicken enclosure and pull back the bolt on the gate and crunch over the wood chips to the henhouse. The hens are in the nest box so I pull up the handle, twist it and the door shuts with a thud. I push down the handle and say goodnight to the chickens. On my walk back down the garden I hear a plane go overhead, there are clouds blanketing the sky so I do not see any blinking plane lights, just the orange glow of the street lights reflected in the clouds. The conservatory looks warm and welcoming.
I speed up and reach the door. Hugh opens it for me - 'gosh it's parky out there tonight' I say to him as I kick off my garden clogs and push my feet into my lovely warm slippers. My glasses are speckled with rain - I will need to give them a wipe before going back to watching the documentary on Kaiser Wilhelmina II. I grab my cup of tea and settle myself on the settee happy in the knowledge that the chickens are settled for the night.

Simply a Moment is a meme started by Alexa at Trimming the Sails. Do hop on over to her blog to read her Moment (always brilliantly written) and find links to other moments recorded this November.

  1. That little detail about your glasses getting speckled with rain really resonated with me. That can be surprisingly annoying, can't it

  2. I have really enjoyed all the vivid details of this! as I went down with you in the dark and cold and back again to the warmth and light. Those clogs sound like such a good idea for quick visits outside. I seem to be forever tying and untying shoe laces! It was lovely to see that you had joined in again this month and thank you for letting us make sure those chickens were safe :).

  6. I really liked your moment. It reminds me of my mum popping out in the evening to see my granny who lives next door. I love walking back towards a house all lit up and looking cosy!

It's hard to know which is more annoying, rain on your lenses or your lenses steaming up!

  10. Love how spooky dangerous you make feeding the chickens feel! It's as if I were there with you.
I've been out of pocket all month and it's great to finally get around for a proper catch up!
Hope to be around more in the future,

  13. I liked that your photo showed the raindrops too. Garden clogs sound so sensible and I'm glad the chickens were sensible and inside too.

  14. Your description made me feel nervous for you going back there even though I know nothing had happened. Love how descriptive you are about the walk out and back.
