WARNING! Picture heavy post!
Today was Pompeii day! A place I have wanted to visit since I was 11 years old and started Latin lessons.

We took the shuttle bus to town
and then got the train to Pompeii Scavi station. It was then literally a
three minute walk to the entrance. We were so pleased that we had
bought our ticket yesterday as the queue was about 45 minutes long. We
were able to skip, that and go straight to rent the audio guide. It was
really busy at the entrance - tour guides were a pain as their groups
were spread across the pavements, however we just pushed our way through
and got on with what we wanted to do and see!
We saw loads!
We saw the figures
frozen time,
we saw bath houses,
we saw theatres
we saw bakeries
We found a shady spot to eat our picnic in an old house. We walked for miles in high sun and heat, however there was a nice breeze. We walked all the way from one end to the other. I loved the amphitheatre were the gladiators fought.

We exited the site just before
4pm having arrived at 10.15am and had an orange slushy each - bliss! The
train left at 4.15pm
and we eventually got back to the hotel just after 5.30pm. We had a swim, a shower and then ate. We Skyped Penny. We are now collapsed on the bed, Hugh is watching 'You've been framed' in Italian and I am about to read. A lovely day.

Me too! I had been dreaming about going since I started Latin and couldn't help but think of my old Latin teacher as we went round. Amazing place
It looks as fascinating as it has always sounded. I love seeing photographs of places I'll probably never visit.
Another who has wanted to go since she first heard about it. Thanks for sharing!
I am enjoying your Italy posts so much, Becky! Gosh, I just LOVE ruins and old stuff like that - REALLY makes me want to visit Italy and go to some of the same places you've shared.
You don't have to warn us that it is picture heavy - that's a bonus in my book. I'm loving seeing your Pompeii vacation. I've never been anywhere as old as there.
It looks such an interesting place to visit if sad. How amazing that there is so much left to see.
Awesome photos.

Looks like a fabulous day!
It's been super being able to see these places through your (and Hugh's) eyes. I've loved seeing all your Italy blogs. I know I'll never get there so it's extra special being able to see them.
