Spotlight Saturday - Blackpool and those illuminations

Hello followers! Sorry there was no blog post last weekend - I came down with the most horrible cold and really didn't feel like sitting at the computer to make a post.

However the weekend before Hugh and I travelled up to Blackpool to see the Illuminations. The Blackpool Illuminations are something I have heard about all my life but never seen and neither had Hugh, so on the Friday morning we packed an overnight case and tootled up to Blackpool. It took us just over 5 hours which wasn't bad and after checking into our Premier Inn we drove into Blackpool, parked up and went for a walk. We were lucky that the tide was out and we were able to amble along the beach - it wasn't raining but it was blowing a gale!

I had converted some Tesco Clubcard vouchers into tickets to take us to the top of the Blackpool Tower. We saw a quite entertaining short film and then it was up in the lift to the viewing platform. There was a glass floor on part of it! I did manage to walk over it - Hugh wasn't so keen!
However I did manage to persuade him to stand on it and got this photo!
After looking at the views for a while it was time for some food and we went to the most fantastic fish and chip shop which came recommended via Trip Advisor and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone going to Blackpool!
Food finished we went and sat opposite the Tower to wait for the lights to be switched on at 6.45pm. At exactly 6.45pm they turned on! We then walked from the Tower all the way down to the Pleasure Beach enjoying the lights as we went.

Arriving at the Pleasure Beach we went to the tram stop and caught one of the vintage trams to take a trip all along the front to see all the lights.

The tram went a lot further up past the Tower and we saw lots of tableau lights which we didn't realise were there! That was a lot of fun.
The tram took us back to the Pleasure Beach which was just where our car was parked. We fell into the car and then I noticed on my Fitbit that we had actually walked 17,000 steps that afternoon and evening! We were exhausted and collapsed back to the hotel where we both slept really well!

Saturday saw us take a trip to Southport and Liverpool, but more about that next week!

Gosh, this took me back! A huge part of my childhood was the annual visit to "see the Lights" - a real trip down Memory Lane!
