Chicken run!

We have had Patty and Selma since May and they are two wonderful chickens. They give us about a dozen eggs a week and are extremely friendly. We got them from Omlet, along with an Eglu and they are incredibly easy to keep. However, we didn't feel that they really had enough room to roam around, and although we have a big garden we didn't want to just let them out as we have a fox that visits the garden. So last weekend Hugh and Ben built the chickens a magnificent new run.

They used the area that we used to have the trampoline on. The trampoline is hardly used now, so we will sell that in the spring. There is a load of wood chips in the area and the chickens think it is absolutely great. They go mad, kicking the chips up to get at bugs, worms and weeds!

The ginger chicken is Patty and the black chicken is Selma (named after Marge's sisters in the Simpsons!). They just wouldn't keep still when I tried to photograph them!

We have decided that we will only let them into the run when we are around the house and garden so that we can keep an eye on them and make sure we don't have a visit from Mr Fox!

Awww...good idea to keep your eye on them - a friend of mine has 6 and they follow her around like dogs and really have little personalities

I have wanted chickens off and on since we moved into our house about 18 years ago! You have a lovely set-up there. Maybe I will do some investigation and start bother DH about it again!
