A mini book

Whilst we were away on our road trip I kept my journal daily, but also wanted to do a little bit of scrapbooking! I had bought a 'kraft' type journal from Paperchase and so took that, some Washi tape and a pen to do 'something' but I didn't know what. Hugh suggested that I use it to keep a diary about the hotels - doing reviews on them and sticking in business cards, free notepaper etc. I thought this was a brilliant idea and to top it off, Hugh took a photo of me outside every hotel for me to stick in when I got back (except in Los Angeles where we completely forgot!).

Anyway, when I got home I had only used about 20 of the pages and there were loads left in the journal. I didn't want to waste the pages, so decided to take it apart, take out the pages I had written and turn them into their own mini book and that is what I did last weekend.
I covered some chipboard with pale cream card and then stamped with Versamark ink to create a watermark type background. One of the stamps I embossed with Tim Holtz Distressed embossing powder. I then cut out some shapes with my Cricut and the title. I made the back in a similar way, but with less decorating.
I then did a title page inside
I continued with the 'watermark' type stamping throughout the book.

The pages I had written where then placed chronologically inside the book. Here you can see the business card from the hotel stuck in with the tape.
I added in some extra pages to hold the photos Hugh had taken.
This shows a postcard on the left and the photos on the right.

In the original journal there were a couple of pages to hold 6x4 photos, so I included one of those to put all the photos in that we took of the suite we were upgraded to in Lake Havasu! I also put in the little maps that were in the itinerary book we were given by our travel agent.
This shows a photo on the left and the whole page which I took out of the itinerary book. I wasn't able to add this to every hotel as I needed the information on the back of it for other layouts!
I haven't shown you all the pages here, just a sample to give you a flavour of what the book is like. I am really pleased with how it has turned out and will keep it with the USA album I am still making!

A great idea to spiral bind the bits you did on the holiday itself - and I like the watermarking detail too!

A brave move which has really paid off! It must be lovely to have an album to flip through already - reliving it all

Great idea! We often take photos of the places we stay, but then I never know what to do with them.
