Castes and Cream Teas

Tuesday 16th April

We woke to sunshine again today although there was a cold wind blowing all day. After breakfast we loaded up a picnic and set off the hour and a quarter to Wales to Chirk Castle.

We spent a couple of hours exploring the tower, the dungeons and the family rooms - all fascinating. I then put Penny into the pillory ...
..and her and Hugh into the stocks!

We then went the 5 minute walk back to the entrance to eat our picnic in the picnic shelter. It was still a bit chilly, but it was nice to eat outside.

After lunch we decided to go in the woodland walk to see if we could see any of the woodland piggies! We did! But only one! On our way back we took some time out in the bird hide and watched various tits feeding.

On returning to the castle entrance we went to the tea shop and all had a cream tea with my winnings from the Grand National sweepstake at work. It was scrummy!

We finished our visit off with a trip to the farm and gift shop where Penny treated us to some sweets and I bought Hugh some black pudding.

We then drove into Chirk and parked up to take a walk along the aqueduct. It was so windy up there that we didn't walk all the way across as it felt as if we would be blown over the side! We took some photos though and were lucky to see a barge come across and to then go into the tunnel.

We walked a little way into the tunnel just to say we had done it! We also saw a train go over the viaduct which was successful for Hugh!

The journey home was uneventful and we went into Sainsburys to get a bit of shopping before coming home to eat a nice meal of chicken Kiev and a glass of wine. Another lovely day. I am feeling every relaxed.

Sounds like you had a fun day even with the cold wind. Love that photo of Penny in the tunnel.

Oh, wow, Chirk! It must be 20 years since we visited it on one of our camping holidays. It was freezing that day too and we took refuge in a teashop in the town. Great pictures!

What fun! I love the photo looking through the tunnel. It may have been windy and cool, but it was a great day for photographs.
