Dinefwr Park and Castle

I altered the itinerary for today. Originally we were going to go to Big Pit, but as the weather had been so nice it seemed a shame to be underground, so we went to Dinefwr Park ad Castle instead.

We parked up, £6 for the car which wasn't bad, and set off on our walk. We took in the castle first, pounding our way up a steep hill!

Very fine remains, which we wandered all around.

One area had stairs to go up, but they were those type with see through metal and on the way down I froze.

Fortunately Ben was with me and he held my hand firmly and saw me down! (And Penny took photos of it - she said that she thought I would want to scrapbook it!)

We then retraced our steps a little and continued on the River Walk.

It was flat and very peaceful, Infact we didn't see anyone else on it for the majority of the way.

We stopped and ate our picnic sitting on a fallen tree at the edge of a field.

Eventually we arrived back at the beginning and decided to go the tea room for a cream tea - what a rip off! You had to pay to enter the house in order to use the tea room, so it would have cost us another £16!

We decided not to do this and returned to the cottage - as you can see, we weren't too upset!

We sat and read, but Ben got fidgety, so he and Hugh went exploring the estate and found the way to the top of the hill. When they got back supper was ready so we all ate together and then as Ben was STILL fidgety Penny and I climbed to the top of the hill with him. This is looking back down at the cottage and farmhouse.

The views from the top were superb. I gave Mum and Dad a ring from there as we had signal!
Early the next morning, Penny rushed out and took a photo from the cottage back up at the hill.
It doesn't look that steep, but believe me, it was!

Looks like another wonderful day! I can totally relate to the stairs. I have a terrible fear of heights. Sometimes I might make it up stairs like that, and other times, not a chance.

It's not often these days that you can spend a day like that without being somewhere near a crowd. It looks lovely

The whole impression is one of peacefulness (apart from the restlessness?). Looks like there was plenty of 'up' involved; I'm with you on the coming down things with gaping holes in view. Brrr! Lovely photos :).

Lovely looking weather and scenery to explore. I do like a nice ruin :) Shame on the tea - silly of them to arrange it that way.

What a lovely outing. And these days, I know that most hills are steeper than they look.

Oh my gosh how beautiful! I love old ruins like that, and it's really cool that you were able to actually walk around on the site. Really great photos too, Becky.

Have a lovely weekend! xo

Sounds like a really fun day. Love the picture of Penny by the brook.
I hate see-through stairs to the point I don't go on them.
