We visited the Dolaucothi Gold Mines. A short drive from our cottage of only 10 minutes.
We arrived and had a look around the pithead and signed up for the tour of the goldmine.
We were kitted up with our helmets and lamps.
We walked UP hill to get to the goldmine and went into the mine through a very low entrance.w
We were given an excellent guided tour and learned how they mined the gold back in the early 20th century.
We looked up at the seams where the gold had been taken from.
We came out and had an excellent view of the pithead from the top of the hill.
We panned for gold.
We thought we might have found some!
We had found 'fools' gold!
A robin joined us whilst we had our cup of coffee.
We went for a walk and Ben climbed a tree.
Hugh and Ben walked together and talked together - I love to see father and son like this.
The views on the walk were very pretty.
Hugh took this photo - Ben does like us really and wasn't having a 'strop'! Hugh didn't realise that Ben was not close to us when he took this!
So we packed up and went back to Llandovery to have an early supper, late lunch. There was only one place open - a rough looking cafe - however we had the most delicious food there! We then returned to the cottage and after sitting in the setting sun for a while we retired indoors and watched 'The Desolation of Smaug' (part 2 of The Hobbit) which we had taken along on DVD. Yet another lovely day together.

Has anyone actually found gold? I bet it was quite fun :)
I come from a family of Welsh coal miners rather than gold miners..not quite so fancy lol. But this looks very interesting indeed
I had no idea that gold wax ever mined in Wales - fascinating! I do enjoy your happy photos of you altogether.
Like Sian my Welsh family mined coal not gold - didn't know there was gold in Wales. Like that photo of Hugh and Ben walking and talking.
Looks like it was a fun day.
