Once upon a time ...

a long time ago, a Mummy gave birth to a little girl.

That little girl grew up to marry the man of her dreams and have two wonderful children, a boy and a girl. And today is that little girl's birthday!

I got out my 'baby box' last night.
This is a box which my Mum was given just after she had me and it was filled with chocolates. When she had eaten the chocolates she kept the box as a memory box for me.
I love looking through this. Last night I found the little tag which had been put on my wrist and the tag which was on my cot in the hospital (first photo). And I found one of the announcement cards my Mum and Dad sent out to their friends and family.
I also found these two fabulous letters. One from each of my Aunts. Please don't feel that you have to read through them all, but they are a wonderful snapshot of time, 48 years ago! If you click on them you can read them more easily.

This first letter is from my Aunty Peta, my Mum's sister. She had her first child, my cousin Ian, the August of 1965, so he is just under a year older than me.
This second letter is from my Aunty Sandra, my Dad's sister. She had no children at the time, her first child was born a year after me in 1967.

I feel so lucky to have this memory box. There are so many memories stored inside it. Thank you so much Mum for keeping this for me (and I have done the same for my children!).

I spent a wonderful birthday weekend celebrating and tonight I will be celebrating with Penny and Hugh. I will post about what I did at the weekend later in the week. Keep watching!

Well happy birthday. What a precious treasure box that is, and how sweet it was once the home to chocolates. Thanks for posting the letters, I enjoyed them greatly. Family is such a blessing, isn't it.

It has been wonderful to see your keepsakes and read the very atmospheric-of-the-time letters ... I remember reins (leather usually with a little lamb or bear on the front!). No wonder you are a scrapbooker - your Mum was well ahead of her time :). A super post.

What an absolute treasure you have there. Sadly my mother doesn't seem to have been to keep baby stuff;

Oh how neat that you have that - I don't have anything from when I was a baby or for that matter a child.
