An 80th birthday present for my father-in-law was the inspiration behind this room box.
He and my mother-in-law live in an old rectory in Cornwall and they share a wonderful study. I decided to base his room box on the study and include all his favourite bits and pieces where possible.
This included photos of his own mother, Hugh and his sister and a family group of the four of us. He has loads of books, each of which I made from balsa wood and covered in fine used leather from old gloves found in charity shops. There is his dog that he had at the time and his swords and maps. Of course we included a birthday card which is on the mantlepiece and the family coat of arms up on the wall.
I wasn't sure how this would go down with him. As with making cards for people or giving them a mini book you are never sure if they are going to appreciate the time and effort that has gone into them. However, he was absolutely thrilled with it and it now takes pride of place in .... the study!
I hope you are enjoying your Easter Monday - we I am recovering from eating too much chocolate yesterday!
Please come back next Monday to see the next miniature (yes, there are still more to come!).

So much beautiful detail Becky! Did you make all of the pieces yourself?
The furniture and fireplace I bought, but I made all the other bits and pieces like the books, cushion, rug, pictures and shield. Thank you so much everyone for your kind comments :)
