Well, that's torn it!

In 1983/84 my sister and I were polar opposites. She was a trainee hairdresser, very trendy, wild hairstyles and wild in nature!

I, on the other hand, was a bit more reserved! I was working as a secretary for Kodak, dressed like a secretary for the most part and, although my hair was permed, had a sensible haircut!

Pippa liked to pose for the camera
She also modelled for the hairdressers she was training at and one day came home with her hair painted white with poster paint! I haven't got a photo of that, but I do have this one of her posing again!
I love that in this one she is holding her teddy, which she has had from birth, and also all the photos of hairstyles stuck on her wall!

Anyway, one Saturday evening I was going to a disco in the town hall with my friend Ann. I didn't know what to wear, so Pippa volunteered her stripey dress (she says now that I borrowed the dress without asking, but I am sure I would have asked!).
I felt very 'with it' as I went off to the disco - especially liking the scarf tied round my head! Now, I was 18 at the time, so there may have been a little alcohol involved, I really don't remember. What I also don't remember is that I apparently returned the dress a little worse for wear with a tear in it (and it was one of Pippa's favourites) oops! Maybe it was doing the dance moves of the 80's or gestures like this that caused the rip!
Whichever it was, Pippa still, to this day, will tell people how I borrowed her dress and returned it ripped! I'm sorry Pippa, I didn't mean to!

She has forgiven me, but it makes a great story and I am just so pleased that photos were taken of me wearing it! Thinking about it, Pippa must have taken the photos, so she MUST have known that I borrowed the dress lol!

This is brought to you as part of Sian's Storytelling Sunday 2. Please hop on over to her blog where you will find links to more stories and photos.

A great sisterly story. You looked great in that stripy dress and how wonderful you have those photographs of that time.

It's a fantastic story! Those photos are wonderful (that black dress? I had one just like it!) - they will take a lot of us right back on a trip to out teenage years, I think. Must have been an especially good time to have a sister who was a hairdresser - very handy indeed.

I love family stories that alter over the years, like chinese whispers. Great story though and how lovely to have the photo. You haven't changed a bit!

How funny that you both remember the story slightly differently! I too had a dress very similar to the black one. Ah those were the days!

Great photos, you looked very snazzy in the stripy dress, I think borrowing it was worth the disagreement afterwards! x

It does make a great story, esp. since the respective versions of it are so different.

I love - and find it very reassuring - how two people in a family have different memories of events! Great nostalgic photos ...
