Miniature Monday

Today I would like to introduce you to the room box I made for my sister-in-law's 50th birthday. I based it on the kitchen of the house she shares with my mother and father-in-law, which is in an old rectory and quite 'in period'.

I only have the one photograph of this one, which I took before I gave it to her. She was absolutely thrilled with it and hung it on her sitting room wall, where it still is, 14 years later.

I made sure to try and include all the details that make it 'hers'. The Aga was the first necessity as that is what is in their kitchen, as well as the wooden panelling to the side. Her daughter is a very good artist and has always doodled and left bits of her artwork around the kitchen, so we acquired one and I scanned it in, reduced it down and stuck it onto the panelling. Carrie is known for her singing - she sings as guest soloist with the Megavissey Male Voice Choir and at other Cornish concerts, so I put her music satchel, with music in, next to the Aga.

We had to include a chicken as Carrie has kept chickens for as long as I have known her. She has occasionally found one in the kitchen too! Of course, her dog, Jenny, had to be there - well as close as I could find anyway.

On the mantlepiece are a pile of courgettes. Carrie is a very keen gardener, but when she plants courgettes they always all seem to take and then she has a huge glut of them and can't give them away quickly enough!

I also put a birthday card on the mantlepiece and the calendar shows her actual birthday.

She was absolutely thrilled with it, and I have to say that I had great fun in making it all. I loved cross stitching the little cushion on the chair - it was tiny stitches though!

Thank you for looking and look out for another installment next week!

It's fabulous Becky! Did you make that Aga from a kit that was about all those years ago? I made one for my dolls house kitchen.

Fabulous is exactly the right word! I just love the chicken on the chair, and there are so many details. No wonder she loved it.

It's super! I can't believe all the details you managed to get in but was struck by the cushion. I do needlework so I know how hard that must have been to do it in miniscule. BTW, I tried commenting through typepad (scrappyknitter on there) but it wouldn't take.

Sian - my DH made the Aga for me out of some wood! We looked for the kit but couldn't find it. Many thanks to everyone for your kind comments. Love2scrap - I will look into your problem, but not quite sure how to solve it! Thanks though for persevering and leaving a comment.

Wow, Becky, you've done it again. I love looking at your minitures! I clicked on the photo to zoom in and then studied all your fabulous details. My favorite part about this one is that you scanned her daughter's artwork for the little wall! Priceless. No wonder she still has this little treasure displayed.
