Happy Birthday to my Big Boy!

I can hardly believe that Ben is 22 tomorrow. It only seems like yesterday that he was a tiny little baby and now he is a muscley 6ft man! However, although he may be a man, he still wanted 'mummy' to bake him a special birthday cake, so I started on Tuesday and finished this evening!

First I made the bodies:
Then I made the eyes:
Then I put the eyes onto the bodies and added some beaks:

Then I made the red Angry Birds!

Then, whilst they were drying a bit, I cut out some bits of icing to make bricks:
These I then painted - some to look like stone, some to look like ice:
The birds then got beaks and had to lie on their backs so that the beaks wouldn't fall off before they were dry!
Then it was onto the cake. This was a chocolate cake, which was cut to shape and then put onto a board which had been coated in green icing to represent grass.
Then came the hardest bit of all. Putting it all together so that it wouldn't fall down everytime I turned my back! I have to admit that I cursed a bit here!
The towers are made from Tunnocks Caramel Wafers and stuck together with Betty Crocker chocolate frosting! I got covered in chocolate trying to get these to balance.
And here is the finished cake, with pigs all in place and Angry Birds sitting waiting to be fired at the pigs! Ben will be destroying his cake this evening and I will be videoing it, so will post it on here over the weekend!
One more view! I have to say here that this cake wouldn't have been possible without the wonderful instructions from Mike Cooper of Electric Pig who made the cake for his son (also called Ben) and then kindly posted the instructions. However, I also slightly curse him as if he hadn't had posted it my Ben wouldn't have seen it and asked for it for his birthday!

So, wishing my wonderful son the happiest of birthdays - the last one living at home as he moves out a week on Saturday and I will really miss him. Love you loads darling xx
