Story Telling Sunday - Friendships and Pass the Book!

Yes, this month I am combining two things! Not only is it Story Telling Sunday 2 today, telling a story with words and/or pictures, but I am also going to Pass the Book!

First, the story. Story Telling Sunday is hosted by Sian - over at From High in the Sky and if you pop on over to her blog when you have finished my story you will find links to loads of other stories.

My story is very much linked to the book I am passing. So, actually, I have to talk about both things together!
The book, which was passed to me by Alison - Life in the Slow Lane is a non-fiction book about a group of girls, growing up through their teenage years in the 80's in mid America and how they are still all good friends. I haven't made that sound very interesting! However, it is a fascinating read and spending my teenage years in the 80's with a great group of girlfriends it really made me think and remember what good times we had.
These two were my bestest of friends, Jane on the left and Ann on the right (taken at Ann's house in 1984). We are still great friends today and although we haven't seen each other for about 4 years we write regularly and keep in touch via Facebook. We are making plans to get together this year in the autumn and I am really looking forward to it.

In all, there were sixof us in our group, Kirsteen, Nikki, Mandy, Ann, Jane and myself. The last time we were all together was at a high school reunion back in 2006 and when we got together it was just like old times and we didn't stop talking all evening! In fact, we met up again about 2 months later as we had so much catching up to do. Unfortunately after that, Nikki went to the States and Mandy to Australia and we lost contact.
Me with Jane. Jane now lives in Cambridgeshire and Ann still lives in Hemel Hempstead. Ann and I were probably the closest as I called her my other sister and my parents called her their other daughter! They still see her regularly when they are out shopping.

Are you still in touch with any school friends?

If you would like to go into the draw for the book (and be prepared to pass it on once you have read it) please let me know in your comment below and I will try to remember to make the draw on Sunday 9th June.

Happy Sunday to you all! We are spending today holding our family party to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and my parents' golden wedding anniversary. I should have about 40 people in the house (hopefully it will be sunny and we will be in the garden) this afternoon and we will all be having a wonderful time, whilst the rest of the UK celebrates the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Whatever you are doing have a wonderful time and may the sun shine on you!

Hope it is drier in Essex than it is in Birmingham today! Growing up in the 80s too, the book sounds fascinating I'd be happy to pass on the book once I'd read it.

As for school friends - hmm I'm still in contact with some of the people who went to school with me but then we're Quakers so it's a fairly small community.

Have a wonderful party!

Yes, I'm still in touch with several friends from school - and your wonderfully evocative photos gave me a smile because we look pretty similar in our pictures. 1984 was a good year!

The book sounds like a great one. I'd love to be included. please

still keeping in contact with trusted friends is fantastic. I am still in contact with a friend I met when I was 16 and starting agricultural college. We are meeting up again in September to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that beginning.

Hope you have a fantastic party. I've been thinking about the very same thing (friendships) recently too.

I'm still in contact with quite a few old school friends (must be an 'Essex-girl' trait!) and I would absolutely love to be included in the draw for the book. Love those photos, it's so interesting to reminisce about the fashions and hairstyles of those days!

Happy Anniversary!!! I am not in touch with anyone I went to school with but it is always so nice to hear about those who have kept in touch. I am one of those who don't go to school reunions. Enjoy your celebration!!
P.S. please don't include me in the book draw, but it is a wonderful idea :-)

Happy Anniversary. Have a wonderful day with your family and friends.
I'm meeting up with two college friends in the summer. One I see at least twice a year and the other not since she got married, 15 years ago!

Happy Annivesary! What a wonderful idea to combine passing the book & your story of friendship. So glad you enjoyed the book - thanks for being a part of Pass the Book:Year Two.

I do not have contact with any of my high school friends anymore, but I do have wonderful memories from those years.

we moved from Kansas to Ohio when I was in elementary school and I moved from Ohio to New York after my second year of high school. My friendships in one town were interrupted, and I only had a couple of years in my second high school before I left for college. Nonetheless, I still correspond once or twice a year with one friend from both schools. Not having long-lasting friendships from childhood is one of the fall-outs from moving.

Friends are so special, no matter how long passes between getting together, we always pick up where we left off. Hope you managed a great celebratory weekend despite the weather.

Hope you had a wonderful party and the weather didn't dampen it. I still keep in touch with a couple of friends from school days but there is one that I see or talk to every week. We were three but sadly our other friend passed away from breast cancer.

Such a fun story and the book sounds great - too bad I'm a little late! ;)

I still keep in touch with most of my friends from high school, but Facebook was just getting popular before I graduated so I added a lot of them around that time...it really does help a lot!
