Simply a moment

Right now, 11.45am on Thursday 20th December 2012

I am in the office on my own, Brenda doesn’t work today. The radio is playing the Heaven 17 Christmas song, I can hear the chatting of the IT team, and the buzzing of my mobile phone with a message from Penny who is on the train to London. People walk past my office delivering Christmas cards. Mike Rutherford, owner of the Company comes in for 2 first class stamps for his cards. The office is warm and airless, making me feel sleepy. There is not a lot of HR work to do at this time of year and I am sneakily reading a book on the internet – What Katy Did, a favourite from my childhood. It is drizzling outside and the sky is grey and merges into the buildings opposite. There is not much traffic going past my window today which is good as it means there are no traffic jams and hooting of car and lorry horns. My coffee cup is empty, as is my water glass – time to go and get a refill. The tin of Christmas sweets sits twinkling its shiny papers on the filing cabinet behind me. The Secret Santa bag, with its exciting selection of presents for tonight, is sitting on the floor so that I won’t forget to take it with me when we go out tonight to our Abba tribute evening.

This "Simple Moment" (a little late) is inspired by Alexa of Trimming the Sails. There are other December moments here.

Sounds like a nice pause - What Katy Did and What Katy Did Next were favourites of mine. I'll have to go looking for those :)

Oh - and I've not typed up my 'just a moment' so you're not the last

I've really enjoyed reading your momentary pause at work - so full of atmosphere with your crisp description of all the details. Hoping you managed to stay awake; did all the chocolates get eaten? I loved both the Katy books - I might just get them off the shelf and reread them this Christmas! Thank-you so much for a glimpse into your day, and for joining in :).
