Simply a moment - May 2014

The room is crowded and stuffy with low lighting. The beat of the music reverberates through my body. Voices rise and fall, talking, singing, laughing. There is an air of expectation. I glance to my right. Penny is gazing at the stage, the anticipation showing in every plane of her face. The heat is starting to get to me and my legs are aching from standing. I think to myself that I am too old to attend a concert where there is standing only. I grab my ticket from my pocket and fan myself. My legs are rebelling and I shuffle from one foot to the other, my feet sticking to the floor where drink has been spilled. The music stops and the lights dim. Voices quieten and all eyes are turned to the stage. Pentatonix walk on and the room fills with cheers, whistles, screams and applause. I glance again at Penny and see her face light up and hear her cheer. My legs no longer ache.
This is the last time I am joining in with Simply a Moment with Alexa as she is letting it go. I am sad as I have enjoyed joining in and reading everyone's 60 seconds, once a month. I may continue to do my own moment once a month ... if I remember!

Meanwhile, do hop on over to Alexa's blog to read her final Simply a Moment and to catch up with everyone else. Thank you Alexa for running this meme for the past 2 years - it has been great fun.

Simply a Moment - April 14

I am standing in the dark. It is not just dark, but completely pitch black. I cannot see my hand in front of my face. The walls around me are rocky and damp, the floor beneath my feet uneven and slippery. Laughter suddenly drifts up the tunnel towards me. Ben and Penny have gone to explore to the end of the tunnel and find the cave. More laughter and then a flash bounces off the walls. They are taking selfies as I asked them too - well I have scrapbooking in mind! Hugh has gone back towards the entrance, his claustrophobia getting the better of him. I hear Ben and Penny chatting. My heart swells with happiness to hear them getting on so well together. I think to myself that I must remember this moment and that makes me think of Simply a Moment and I know what I will record once I get back to the cottage. Their voices are coming closer now and their torch light is bouncing off the rocky walls as they approach. 'We took selfies for you!' Penny calls as she gets nearer 'and I took a photo of Ben in a hole!' It is wonderful to see them enjoying themselves and letting go of inhibitions even though they are young adults now. Suddenly they are with me again and there is light around me, we head off together to find Hugh.

This month I am joining in with Alexa at Trimming the Sails to record a moment in my life. Mine was recorded at Careg Cennen Castle in South Wales whilst we were on holiday last week.

Simply a Moment - March 2014

As I sweep round the corner in my car I see the glow of brake lights ahead and slowly bring my car to a halt.

I glance at the dashboard clock – 7.52am, hopefully I’ll still get to work on time. The traffic is stationary. My wiper blades glide back and forth across the screen clearing the rain away. So different from yesterday when it was beautiful sunshine. I put the handbrake on and glance in my rear view mirror – the queue of cars behind me is getting longer and the queue ahead stretches as far as the eye can see. Has there been an accident or is it just the usual queue at this point on the A12? As I think this the traffic inches forward. I release the brake, move forward ten feet and become motionless again.  The story CD I am listening to is interrupted by the traffic news – I listen attentively but there is no mention of my stretch of the A12, it must just be the weather and the weight of traffic. I sigh and settle myself more comfortably into the seat and decide I might just as well enjoy listening to the story!

We creep forward a little more and then suddenly the traffic clears and I pick up speed. I will make it to work on time after all!

Simply a moment - January 2014

I'm joining Alexa over at Trimming the Sails who is hosting the monthly meme - Simply a Moment.

I relax back in my seat and a grin spreads across my face. It is dark outside the window and the light from the dashboard as I press the button to turn on the ignition glows orange into the car. I press the button again and the car starts. The radio comes on and I press the button to change the function to phone to ensure that my phone’s Bluetooth has connected. Seeing that it has I change the function again to CD and the talking book Ben gave me for Christmas, Gone by James Patterson, continues with the story where it left off last night. I fumble for the switch for the lights, still a little unsure of where all my knobs and buttons are, I’ve only had the car for a week! Finding the switch I turn the lights on – I’m looking forward to when my journey to work will be in daylight again. I pull the seatbelt across my body and plug myself in, checking that my handbag is on the floor and that I have deadlocked the doors. All set, into reverse, the screen on the satnav lights up with the video feed from my reversing camera – I giggle to myself, still thrilled with all the gadgets and gizmos my new car has. I reverse out of the drive and begin my journey to work, what has been a chore is now an excitement – for a while anyway!
