Simply a moment (Jan 19)
The house is very quiet, all I can hear is the ticking of the radiator next to me and the hum from the computer. Penny is fast asleep upstairs - she role played with her online friends in America until the early hours of the morning. My mobile phone is in front of me on the desk. I am waiting for Hugh to call. He should have been home last night from Zurich but his flight was cancelled. I had a text from him over two hours ago to say he was in Munich and hopefully on his way, but I have heard nothing since and it is now 10.30am. I can't relax. I keep looking on the Heathrow arrivals board on the computer, but Hugh forgot to tell me what flight he was on, so I am just looking at all flights arriving from Munich. My stomach is churning as I worry about where he is. The lights are on. It is so dark and gloomy outside. Only a sprinkling of snow on the ground here, but the sky is very grey. Willow walks past me and lays herself down under the radiator. Arwen is nowhere to be seen, I think she is with Penny. The desk in front of me is covered in receipts as I have been balancing my bank statement. Anything to take my mind from worrying about Hugh.
Suddenly my phone plays a text alert - 'Just landed at Heathrow but bag may not have made it!! Will call when in terminal. Xxx'. I breath a sigh of relief and go and make myself a cup of cammomile tea.
This "Simply a Moment" is inspired by Alexa of Trimming the Sails. There are other January moments here.

Phew, Becky! I too felt a wave of relief at the end of your evocative post. I can really relate to how your awareness and energy was stretched so wide. Hope the luggage made it home eventually! Thank-you so very much for joining in and allowing us a glimpse into a moment of your life :).
I felt like I was there with you at the desk - such a contrast between the calm in the house and the worry abut the flight.

Phew indeed! waiting is always hard isn't it? thank you for sharing.
Glad Hugh made it back.....waiting is indeed a worry when loved ones are travelling in these kind of weather conditions!
Alison xx
I worry so when anyone in the family is traveling. I knew just how you felt! Glad Hugh got back safe and sound.
So glad to read Hugh made it safely back. It's always a worry when they're travelling in horrible weather. I worry about John flying even when the weather isn't bad. I hope the bag made it back safely and isn't flying around somewhere out there.
It's so hard waiting for that call of text to tell you they're safe, thanks for sharing your moment x
I remind myself that when Wookie started working away we didn't even have a mobile phone.... Wonderfully told - the tension of waiting contrasting with the peace and quiet with everyone else in the house all unawares. Hope the bag arrived home safely too.
Waiting is so hard, you had me almost holding my breath. Nicely written. So glad he was safe.
