Simply a Moment - March 2014

As I sweep round the corner in my car I see the glow of brake lights ahead and slowly bring my car to a halt.

I glance at the dashboard clock – 7.52am, hopefully I’ll still get to work on time. The traffic is stationary. My wiper blades glide back and forth across the screen clearing the rain away. So different from yesterday when it was beautiful sunshine. I put the handbrake on and glance in my rear view mirror – the queue of cars behind me is getting longer and the queue ahead stretches as far as the eye can see. Has there been an accident or is it just the usual queue at this point on the A12? As I think this the traffic inches forward. I release the brake, move forward ten feet and become motionless again.  The story CD I am listening to is interrupted by the traffic news – I listen attentively but there is no mention of my stretch of the A12, it must just be the weather and the weight of traffic. I sigh and settle myself more comfortably into the seat and decide I might just as well enjoy listening to the story!

We creep forward a little more and then suddenly the traffic clears and I pick up speed. I will make it to work on time after all!

What a restful moment despite the potential for, anxious fretting - I admire you philosophical approach :). And you are very well prepared for, your journey - I must have a look in our local library for a book to listen to in the car. We always had loads for the children! Hope you arrived on time, and thank you so much for linking up this month - it's been a great ride :).

I've never thought of listening to a book while I'm driving.

What a great idea, having a book to keep you company on the morning commute.

I like the idea of listening to a book when in the car. I'm so lucky not to have to commute anymore.

I love audiobooks, I listen to them all the time!

I loved reading your moment, Becky. Not only are you just a really good writer, but I loved reading your words that are so different from mine in the US. The use of the word "queue" for one thing. :o) I feel very fortunate to have such a quick drive to work - only about 10 minutes - so no time for audiobooks during my drive.

How annoying to be on the road so early and still have to queue! My husband listens to audio books in the car when he travels but I can't concentrate on my driving and a story! A lovely calm moment and I admire your calm resolve.

Lovely told and good shot too - the A12 is well known to us.

I like podcasts while we're driving. Wookie always has music - loud to sing along to whilst he drives.

That's the only thing I miss about not working anymore - I used to love reading on the train for my journey. But I'd never thought about listening to a book in the car. Great idea

Perfect distraction to avoid what could have been a mood altering situation. We listen to books on long road trips but not otherwise. I would be sitting in the car wrapped up in the story and unwilling to get out lol.

Somehow I don't think I could drive and listen to a book. It might get too interesting and then what would I do. I always wonder about these traffic jams that seem to have no reason - no accident, nothing.
